“Wow Mom! I’m so proud of you!
So…are we making any money yet?”
This quote from my middle child really doesn’t require much in the way of an explanation. Suffice it to say that my 12-year-old son is the most outspoken of my three children…and probably the most tuned in to the universe and the flow of life in general. By my approximation, he is a 2,000-year-old soul trapped in the body of a pre-teen who is on the verge of a hormonal mutiny. I am praying he doesn’t lose all of that old soul wisdom in the heat of battle. He also happens to, unfortunately for his closest of friends and family, be a Sagittarius. Which according to my astrology research means that he has a refreshingly charming way of complimenting people, while simultaneously insulting them.
He is especially adept at doing this to women. Of any and every age. Even I, as his loving mother and someone who is not all that big into the astrology thing, have to admit this to be true.
The above headline quote is just one more example of his ability to build you up while tearing you down…all in the blink of a “you won’t figure out I have just insulted you because you will be too busy blushing from the compliment” charming eye. I don’t know where he got it from. We shall blame the stars. He certainly didn’t get it from his father. He was an overly sensitive Pisces.
Holden, I love you. Thanks for your vote of confidence. Don’t worry, I‘m going to make sure they don’t repossess the house…. and that you can go to sleep away camp next summer.
And I promise you will still always be proud of me. Love, Mom
