“What is Sacred?”…Childhood.

Sacred childhood memories: my mom, circa 1939

This oil painting is based on an idyllic photograph I have of my mom, when she was a little girl. She was outside on a sunny day, in her tree-filled backyard…hanging little pieces of “play-sized” laundry.  Although the original photo was black and white, she was clearly glowing with happiness.  It was magical for me  to think of my mom at age 4 or so, playing outside in the sunshine in her  little white dress.  I used it as one of the images in my exhibit piece that  illustrates my story called, “What is Sacred” because it is a perfect illustration of my belief that childhood  and our memories of that time in our lives are sacred things to cherished.
