This is a dimensional painted piece I created during our first holiday season here in Maine. It was inspired by a wonderful photo of myself and two family friends from my childhood. It brought back such happy memories, I knew a frame wouldn’t be enough…I wanted to give that photo a true place of honor. We were a all dressed up in velvet dresses and jumpers, crisp white blouses and collars, and of course, our shiny black “fancy” shoes. I wanted to commemorate that feeling of “specialness” the holidays have always brought to me. I always loved that my mom insisted I get dressed up for holidays. Even if it was just “us.” We still knew getting dressed in something a bit celebratory somehow gave the holiday an air of dignity and grace. It was a special day….because we made it that way. I often feel that is missing in today’s world…and will happily lead the crusade to leave the jeans in the closet on holidays! :)
